As Jews, we are taught gratitude from the moment we wake up every morning. Modeh ani—“I give thanks”—are the first words out of our mouths. Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks z”l wrote, “We thank before we think. Note that the normal word order is inverted: Modeh ani, not ani modeh, so that in Hebrew the ‘thanks’ comes before the ‘I.’ Judaism is ‘gratitude with attitude.’”
On the heels of our recent Sweet Sounds, and on this eve of Thanksgiving, I am filled with gratitude. Gratitude for our community of caring, which continues to expand every day. And gratitude for the generosity of our supporters, staff, families, teens, volunteers, and educators. You give of your time, money, passion, determination, sweat, and tears to ensure all children access the gift of a Jewish education every single day, even in a pandemic. I am so grateful to each of you for helping to make the dream of inclusion more real each day.
It is truly “gratitude with attitude” that keeps us going during these times.
Wishing you and yours a restful and hopeful Thanksgiving,
Tamar
