Mitzvah Mensches
at Gateways Accessible Hebrew School
Looking for a meaningful Jewish experience for your child after their b-mitzvah? Mitzvah Mensches is Gateways’ social action youth group for teens ages 13+ with disabilities and diverse learning needs. Mitzvah Mensches students explore themes of philanthropy and social justice and take action to support chosen causes.

Mitzvah Mensches students at Gateways’ Accessible Hebrew School work towards three main goals:
1. Build Skills
2. Develop Jewish Knowledge
3. Create Community
Mitzvah Mensches Students Benefit from:
Small classes taught by Jewish special educators
Accessible curriculum with Jewish values, text, and prayer, interwoven with themes of social justice
1:1 support from trained teen volunteers
Participation in guided group social action projects
In-person programming takes place on Sundays in the Greater Boston area. If you live outside of this area, read about our remote tutoring option here.
Leading with Philanthropy
As new Jewish adults, Mitzvah Mensches get to experiment with making their own unique contributions to the community.
Our students learn about four avenues for social action: giving time, advocating for a cause, donating money, and contributing to a product.
Over the course of the year, the group collaborates to identify causes to support. They then use their Jewish knowledge to decide on the best form of philanthropy to engage in for each cause. Our students’ interest drives the group’s choices, so every year is a totally new experience!
