Youth Suicide Safety

Preventative Measures, When to Worry, and What to Do

With Jill Harkavy-Friedman, PhD

As we enter National Suicide Prevention Month, we want to address an important topic that is unfortunately more prevalent than ever—youth suicide prevention.  A recent statistic showed that almost a quarter (27%) of high school students seriously considered attempting suicide.

We all want to keep our kids safe.  How can you find out if your kid is thinking of suicide, and if they are, what can you do to help them? Understanding that this is a difficult subject, we are here to offer you an opportunity to learn from an experienced professional in a calm and supportive manner.

Join Gateways and The Wellness Institute, in collaboration with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), for this free virtual event led by Dr. Jill Harkavy-Friedman, a pioneer in suicide research and the Senior Vice President of Research at AFSP. Dr. Harkavy-Friedman has dedicated her career to understanding and preventing suicide. Her expertise will provide you with valuable insights on:

  • Identifying the warning signs and risk factors for suicide
  • Effective communication strategies with your child or teen around suicide
  • Practical stress management techniques
  • Understanding the role of social media in your child’s mental health
